Mosey is built to work without an account, and most of what you put in it never leaves your phone. This page explains exactly what does leave, where it goes, and how to remove it. Mosey is built and operated by Antler Compass L.L.C-FZ, and published on the App Store by Sam Loyd.
The short version. Use Mosey without signing in and we hold nothing about you at all. Sign in and we store your email address and the group data you choose to sync. We sell nothing to anyone, we run no advertising, and we do not track you across other apps or websites.
Using Mosey without an account
You can create groups, add expenses, split them, and settle up with no account and no network connection. In that mode your data is stored only on your device, and we have no copy of it and no way to see it. Deleting the app deletes the data.
What we collect when you sign in
| Data | Why |
|---|---|
| Email address | To sign you in and to identify your account across devices. Mosey has no passwords — we email you a one-time code. |
| Names you enter | Your own display name and the names you give people in your groups, so balances are readable. |
| Expense and settlement data | Amounts, descriptions, dates, currencies, who paid and who owes — for groups you sync to the cloud or share. |
| Photos you choose | A profile picture or a group cover image, if you set one. Stored only when you are signed in and have Pro; otherwise the photo stays on your device. |
| Receipt photos | Sent for text extraction when you scan a receipt. See below — we do not keep the image. |
| Purchase records | Which one-time purchases you own, so Pro features work across your devices. We never see your card details. |
| Usage events | Which features get used, and error diagnostics. Feature names and counts only — never amounts, item names or merchant names. |
Receipt scanning
When you scan a receipt, the photo is sent from your device to our server, which forwards it to OpenAI to read the line items, prices and total. Only Pro users can scan; the feature is blocked before the camera opens otherwise.
We do not store the image. It is held in memory only for as long as the request takes and is written to no database, no file store and no log. What we keep is the extracted text — the item names, prices and merchant name — because that becomes the expense in your group.
OpenAI processes the image on our behalf as a service provider under their API terms. We ask them not to retain it, we do not use your receipts to train any model, and we do not send them anywhere else.
We remove the photo’s metadata first. Photos can carry hidden information from your camera — the device model, the time, and on phones with location tagging switched on, the exact place the photo was taken. None of that is needed to read a receipt, so Mosey strips it out on your device before the photo is sent anywhere. Only the picture itself leaves your phone.
Share links
When you share a group’s balances or a split bill, Mosey creates a link containing a random token. Anyone with that link can see what it points at — the item names, amounts and the display names of the people involved — without an account.
These pages carry instructions telling search engines not to index them, they are excluded in our robots.txt, their link previews deliberately contain no financial detail, and we load no analytics on them at all. But a link is a key: treat it as you would the information behind it, and revoke it in the app when you are done.
Who processes your data
| Provider | What they handle |
|---|---|
| Supabase | Our database, authentication and file storage. |
| OpenAI | Reading receipt photos you choose to scan. |
| Apple | App distribution and all purchases. Apple handles payment; we never receive your card details. |
| RevenueCat | Recording which purchases you own, so they work across your devices. |
| Resend | Sending your one-time sign-in codes by email. |
| Vercel | Hosting this website, and basic visitor analytics — never on share-link pages. |
These providers operate outside the country you live in, so your data may be processed elsewhere. We choose providers that offer appropriate safeguards for international transfers.
What we do not do
- We do not sell or rent your data to anyone.
- We show no advertising and use no advertising networks.
- We do not track you across other apps or websites, and Mosey requests no advertising identifier.
- We do not read your bank accounts. Mosey connects to no bank. If you share a bank notification with Mosey, the text is parsed on your device and never sent to us.
How long we keep things
Data you sync stays until you delete it or delete your account. Usage events are kept in aggregate for product analysis. Receipt images are not retained at all.
Deleting your data
In the app, Account → Delete account permanently removes your account and everything we hold for it — groups you own, their expenses and settlements, your profile and cover images, your friends, your bill splits, and your purchase records. It cannot be undone.
Deleting a group you own removes it for everyone in that group, since the data belongs to the group. Deleting your account does not refund purchases — refunds are handled by Apple.
If you only want to clear a device while keeping your account, use Reset all data instead.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct or export your data, to object to certain processing, or to complain to a data protection authority. Mosey gives you direct access to everything it holds about you inside the app, including CSV export. For anything else, email support@splitwithmosey.com.
Children
Mosey is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has given us information, email us and we will remove it.
Changes
If we change how we handle your data in a way that matters, we will say so in the app rather than quietly editing this page. The date at the top always reflects the current version.
